June was a hub of activity, Tribal Art lovers visited BRUNEAF in Brussels and the sale of the Marceau Rivière collection took place at Sotheby's Paris. Marceau Rivière collection reached a total of 11,483,940 EUR. The top three lots were all from the Ivory Coast with the wonderfully charismatic Baule mask fetching 4,721,000 EUR.
Sotheby’s headlined the news with the surprise takeover by the billionaire art collector Patrick Drahi, in a $3.7bn (£2.9bn) deal that restores the auction house to private ownership after three decades on the stock market.
Going forward HALI London celebrates 40 years and 200 editions of HALI magazine, with the first London festival devoted to the art and history of textiles. Set over four days HALI London ticket holders will have the chance to look at textiles—symbols of wealth and status that have been traded across continents for centuries—as the key to unravelling complex cultural narratives. The Fair will take place from 27-30th June at Mall Galleries The Mall, London SW1.

Divination Bowl Such bowls were used in rituals in which destiny or prediction (ifa) was defined. Ifa divination was used to transcribe the wisdom of Orunmila, the spirit of wisdom and prophecy in Yoruba mythology. A priest taps rhythmically on a tray with a tapper to ask for the help of Orunmila. A divination bowl like this one is used to keep the sixteen sacred palm nuts.
