A Finely Woven Inkoko Platter
Tutsi people,
Rwanda or Burundi
19 x 17.5 cms
DESCRIPTION
Exquisitely made basketry platters, like this superb example, are usually embellished with austere and refined geometric designs. The finest Tutsi basketry was traditionally made by royal and aristocratic Tutsi women, in much the same way as European women of the leisured classes engaged in fine needlework and embroidery for centuries.
