DESCRIPTION

Representing a Bush Spirit or Spirit Wife (Asie Usu), this powerful seated female is modelled suckling a child in her ams, whilst seated on a stool. Remains of fibre to rear plaited queue, blue pigment to neck keloids. From the collection of the artist, John Christopherson.

Cf. figure in the Seattle Art Museum, published in Praise Poems - The Catherine White Collection, 1984, p. 42-43, fig. 17 for a similar seated maternity.

CONDITION

excellent with age cracks only.
