DESCRIPTION

A large Nepalese Monpa mask of an old wrinkled man or monk used in the Buddhist  Alche Lhamo operas or plays. The Monpa and Sherdukpen peoples using such masks are in Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan. The overall patina is good from age and use.

CONDITION

Good condition with small losses of pigment, and there is a missing chunk out of the back side edge.

Provenance

Previously in the collection of Tony Anninos who field collected this mask in the 1970’s.
