A Rare pair Fhagli festival ceremonial poles  Lahaul valley Himachal  Pradesh

Carved wood poles from a palanquin carved with tribal faces and dancing figures with applied pigments.

The Phagli festival is is held in the month of Phagun (February)  and hence the name Phagli

and celebrates the arrival of spring and fertility rituals are performed.

Himalayan area of Himachal Pradesh India

Period: Early 20th century

Overall height 90 cm, Carved head sections 43 cm ( poles are removable )
