Suriname Jars

Kali’na, Karaiibs Indians

Suriname

Height: 30 and 27 cm

DESCRIPTION

·      Two jars, one with a lid, Watrakan

·      Ceramic, pottery, earthernware

The jars are made of powder-crushed clay mixed with the ashes of the bark of kepi-trees. This ash makes the jar porous, so that it 'sweats' and thus, through the evaporation, keeps the water cool.
