Ethiopia

19th Century

Possession of a shield among the Amhara tribe was nobility and regarded with such reverence among the warriors and chiefs, shields were both used for protection , status symbol and right of passage. Made of animal hide, early 19th century, measurements are H 22 cm X W 41 cm
